Infrastructure
Below are some examples of safe bicycle infrastructure. Notice how the bicycle infrastructure is integrated into the design of auto infrastructure.

Turning Lanes for Autos and Bikes

Bike lanes are colored, clearly marked and there is a lane for thru bicycle traffic as well as left turning bicycle traffic.  Note the clear lines on the ground indicating the path of the rider.

Street, Sidewalk, Bike Path, Residential Zone

A great picture of residential and commercial zones coming together along with a textured crosswalk.  The use of traffic calming devices, like textured crosswalks, turns an auto-centric area into a flourishing pedestrian bi-way.

Bike Track

Entirely separated from traffic by parked cars, the bike track is among the safest examples of bicycle infrastructure.

Traffic Bump Calming

A very wide version of North America’s speed bump, this Netherlands version is called a Speed Table.  It bumps the automobile up onto a lifted and textured section of the roadway through a crosswalk.  It assists in slowing traffic where there is high probability of auto-pedestrian interchange.

Secure Bike Lockers

A must in any bicycle-rich community, safe and protected bike parking keeps bicycles safe and dry.
